He is the brand-new Michael Vaughan on Shoaib Bashir, by Ravi Ashwin

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that in teenage off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, the country has found a “world-class superstar” with the potential to follow in the footsteps of India’s Ravichandran Ashwin.

Playing in only his second Test match, 20-year-old Bashir excelled by returning with a match total of eight wickets, despite England’s five-wicket defeat in Ranchi. During his outstanding effort, he claimed five wickets in the first innings.

Conversely, Ashwin is considered to be among the greatest off-spinners in Test cricket history.

The senior spinner, who recently became only the second bowler from India to take 500 wickets in the longest format, will play his 100th Test against England in Dharamsala next week.

“Celebrating the discovery of Shoaib Bashir, another global superstar,” it has been one of the best weeks ever. It is the reason for our celebration. We’ve uncovered the new Ravi Ashwin—the second Test match, eight wickets.

“On Club Prairie Fire’s YouTube channel, we’re celebrating a new superstar in English cricket,” Vaughan said.

India won the fourth Test in Ranchi to take a 3-1 lead in the series and handed England their first series loss under head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

Vaughan supported England in the Dharamsala dead rubber.

“They’ll send out their strongest lineup. Dharamsala is supposed to have chilly weather, which will be ideal for England. I think England will prevail,” Vaughan said.
